The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 and 2015-2016 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – will be allocated to primary school head teachers.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. All children will benefit directly from this funding.
The documents attached explain how the funding has been spent at Raglan Primary School. Our main aim has been to ensure that the children at Raglan receive as much specialist coaching as possible, as well as teachers receiving training and experience to enable them to teach even higher quality PE lessons.
For the new academic year 2106-2017, there will be progression in coaching units and an assessment system implemented to ensure children are making excellent progress as a result of the funding.
In 2017-2018, 82% of the Year 6 cohort are able to swim 25 meters, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self rescue in different water based situations.
