I hope you all enjoyed the sunshine over, what should have been, half term. We have been busy getting everything ready at school for the start of our phased re opening and we are looking forward to welcoming the children of our Key Workers back tomorrow and then our Nursery children on Wednesday.
If your child is in Nursery, Reception, Language Provision, Year 1 or has been allocated a Key Worker place, please refer to my previous letter which included detail about start times and dates, which gates to use, new protocols and systems etc. By the week of 22nd June, all of the priority year groups will be back in school and I will then be able to confirm whether we will be able to have Year 6 back for some time before the end of term.
As I have previously explained, school will be very different for the rest of this term. The children will be in smaller groups, so may not be with all of their friends and may not be with their usual teacher. Break times and lunch times will also be different. Below is a link to a social story that will help explain these differences to your child if they are returning to school. Please share this with them so that they know what to expect, as this will make returning to school easier for them.
We are sorry that we are unable to have all of the children back at this time and hope that it will not be too long until we can all be together again. We are all missing the children and on this page is a short video clip that we have put together to let the children know that we are thinking of them.
Thank you, Mr Hunter, for coordinating this. As the majority of class teachers are now back working in school, the remote learning for the children not in school will be different going forward. Class teachers will be writing to parents separately this week with details about this. We will be sending out end of year reports at the beginning of July and will also include details about the class teachers for next year. This year, it will not be possible for the children to spend the day with their new teacher, but instead teachers will contact their new class and introduce themselves.
We will also include the proofs from the school photos taken just before we closed. If you would like to order the photos directly you can do this online, but there will be an admin charge of £4 per family. Alternatively, you can hold on to the proofs and we will complete a school order in September.
Finally, I am delighted to let you know that Mrs Ingrey has been appointed Acting Deputy while Ms Wood is on maternity leave and we wish her every success in her new role. Mrs Ingrey will continue to oversee Giraffe’s home learning and work with the Year 1 team to plan their learning and support their return to school.
